Berry Scores Maiden Eurocup-3 Win at Paul Ricard
Le Castellet, France – Garrett Berry secured his first race win in Eurocup-3 this weekend at the Paul Ricard Circuit in the South of France, also marking the first win of the season so far for Saintéloc Racing.
While Berry didn’t qualify with his ideal lap time on Saturday morning, he managed to post a respectable bank lap that placed him P12 for Race and P1 for the Sprint Race later in the day.
With a rapid launch at the start of Race 1, Berry made up 3 positions by the time he was through the first corner, but was later hindered at Turn 8 due to some cars ahead who cut the chicane. He ended Race 1 in P9, earning him championship points.
Going into the Sprint Race, Berry opted to use new tyres to defend his pole position off the line and made another great start. From there, he took control managing the field behind him with strong pace – just 2 tenths off the fastest lap time – and crossed the line in first place.
On Sunday, a red flag dropped in the last 7 minutes of qualifying and Berry couldn’t capitalise on his push laps resulting in a P14 grid position for Race 2. The day became one to forget for Berry after he exited wide at Turn 2 and sustained damage to the front left of the car, which forced him to box on the opening lap. He ended the race behind traffic in P25.
Looking back on the weekend, Berry said:
“My first win in Eurocup-3 at Paul Ricard feels amazing. The pace in the race gives me a lot of confidence for what we can do when we’re up front. It’s now down to optimising our qualifying so that I can have more opportunities to score points and podiums. I’m looking forward to carrying this momentum to the iconic Monza circuit where no driver has done much testing in the Eurocup car.”
